WSSP Student Application and
Submission Instructions

An Electronic Student Application must be received by FEBRUARY 26th, 2010.

Students’ notifications will be e-mailed the week of April 12, 2010.  We apologize for the delay, but we have received a large number of applications that have delayed processing.

PLEASE NOTE: All communication with our applicants is conducted primarily by e-mail.

A complete application includes the following:

1. Student Application (electronic submission form).

2. Nominator Form (electronic submission form).

3. Official high school transcript. You must request that your high school Registrar mail your transcript to us directly. Your transcript should include any PSAT or SAT scores.

4. Two letters of recommendation (must be provided by two references other than the Nominator). You should ask each teacher to write a letter of recommendation for you and request that each e-mail that letter to wssp@cm.utexas.edu prior to the deadline date.

5. An Essay of about 250 words (the equivalent of 1 typed page, double-spaced). In your essay you should address each of the following items:

a. Discuss your present academic focus. What interests you most about chemistry?

b. Which of your past achievements are most important to you and why? Describe one or two accomplishments or life experiences, your age at the time, and what each meant to your self-development.

c. Discuss an individual who has influenced you. What are the attributes of this person that you most admire? You may draw from fiction, biography, or your own experience.

With the exception of your high school transcript, all application materials must be submitted to us at wssp@cm.utexas.edu.

It is important that you remember to clearly indicate your name on all application materials. We will not be responsible for misplaced application materials that do not clearly indicate your name.

The WSSP is conducted annually involving the Chemistry Departments located at:

Texas Tech University
The University of Texas at Arlington
The University of Texas at Dallas
The University of Houston
The University of Texas at Austin

The assignment of a scholar’s site location is made by the Selection Committee of Site Coordinators based upon predetermined criteria. Do not request to attend a specific site as these requests will not be considered.
